Cleaning Wooden Window Frames

Cleaning wooden window frames.

Combine 1 tablespoon of a mild liquid detergent with 1 quart of warm water. Be sure to rinse off the solution then dry thoroughly. Get your window frames wet before you begin cleaning. Put on rubber gloves and an n 95 particle mask.

2 wash the wood window frame with the sponge and detergent solution. Spray this mixture on the window frame in all the places that you just covered with baking soda. Step 2 dip a sponge or scrub brush into the cleaning solution and thoroughly scrub the window frames to remove any mold. Rinse the window casings well.

Sprinkle baking soda on the edge of the window frame and make sure it also gets in the corners and grooves. Wipe the frames with a clean dry cloth or dry sponge to absorb any remaining liquid or moisture on the surface. Alternatively use biological wash powder diluted in warm water. If your window frames are particularly grubby and washing up liquid isn t quite cutting it add a teaspoon of bicarbonate of soda to give it a little more kick.

Fill a bucket with 1 gallon of warm water and add 2 or 3 teaspoons of laundry detergent. Wet a sponge in the soapy water. Wipe down the frames with a damp cloth. It is important that no amount of moisture is left on the surface as this will only encourage new mildew growth.

This is particularly good for removing organic matter such as bird droppings and plant sap. Clean the sills from the dirt with a dry soft brush or a cloth. Add a few drops of dish soap and shake it well. This will loosen dirt and dust making the cleaning process go smoother.

Step 6 apply antifungal paint. Saturate the sills and frames with the liquid and wait 10 minutes. The liquid penetrates the porous material and is anti fungal and anti bacterial. Scrub the window casings with this mixture using a clean rag.

Hydrogen peroxide is a good option for removing it from wooden frames and sills. Fill the spray bottle with equal amounts of cleaning vinegar and water. To remove it simply use a 3 concentration of hydrogen peroxide in a spray bottle. As you clean and again six months later make a point to check the condition of your wood door.

Vacuum the big parts of dust from the floor. Make sure you ve removed all of the dust and anything else that is on the top layer of grime. Wet a sponge and run it along the full frame making sure to get into cracks and crevices as well.
